Ceiling refresh & cornice cutting-in, Brisbane

Ceiling painting

Flat, even ceiling coverage that hides old marks and shadowing — done alongside a room repaint, or as a small job on its own.

A painter’s prepared work area with drop sheet, masking tape, brush and paint kettle

Ceilings age quietly. They yellow, they collect cooking film in kitchens, and they shadow around vents and light fittings. Because it happens slowly, most people do not notice until the walls get painted and the ceiling suddenly looks grey by comparison.

Painting the ceiling at the same time as the walls costs far less than coming back to do it later, and it is the single change that makes a repainted room actually look new.

What ceiling painting involves

  • Full ceiling coverage in flat ceiling white or a colour of your choice
  • Cutting in neatly at the cornice line
  • Working around downlights, fans and vents
  • Sealing any stains before the topcoat goes on
  • Kitchen and bathroom ceilings, where washable products matter
  • Cornices painted where they need it

Why ceilings are their own job

  1. Light is the enemy

Ceilings catch raking light from every window, which shows up roller marks, missed edges and patchy coverage far more than walls do.

  2. Coverage over speed

Thin ceiling coats look fine wet and patchy dry. Proper coverage means the right product at the right spread rate, not a fast single pass.

  3. Cut in by hand

A clean cornice line is brushwork. Tape alone rarely gives a crisp edge on an older Brisbane cornice that is not perfectly straight.

  4. Protect everything below

Ceiling work is the messiest part of any interior job. Full floor and furniture protection is not optional.

Common questions

Common questions

Should I paint the ceiling when I paint the walls?
If the ceiling has not been done in a long time, yes. Fresh walls against a tired ceiling is the most common regret people have after a repaint.
What colour should a ceiling be?
Standard ceiling white suits most rooms and keeps them feeling open. In rooms with very high ceilings, or where you want a cosier feel, a tinted ceiling can work well — Tony will give you a straight opinion on whether it will suit your light.
Can you paint around downlights and a ceiling fan?
Yes. Fittings are masked or removed where practical and put back afterwards.
